4 Tips For A Better Sunset Cruise

Embarking on a sunset cruise can be a great way to see your vacation spot and enjoy the beauty that is all around you. On many of these cruises, you are served appetizers — or perhaps even a full dinner — as the boat travels through the water and past notable sites. It's hard to imagine having a bad time on a sunset cruise, but you can have an even better time if you follow these tips.

1. Eat beforehand.

Especially if your cruise involves a dinner, you may be tempted to avoid eating all day to save your appetite. But if you're hungry when you get on the boat, the motion of the waves is more likely to make you sick. You may also struggle to enjoy the first part of the voyage if all you can think about is your rumbling stomach! Don't eat a full meal right before the cruise, but do eat some snacks — perhaps some nuts and crackers — so that you're not famished when you step aboard the ship.

2. Go easy on the alcohol.

On many sunset cruises, one of the main attractions is the open bar. It's fun to kick back and enjoy some drinks while at sea. It can make the conversation flow better and make it easier to meet new friends. But you should be careful not to over-indulge. You'll miss the sightseeing part of the cruise, and you may not feel great as the ship starts to rock. Alternate between alcoholic beverages and water to keep your consumption under control.

3. Listen to the tour guide.

Try to get on the ship early so you can get a spot closer to the tour guide. This way, you will have an easier time hearing what they have to say as the ship navigates the water. You may hear interesting stories about the spot you're visiting or learn of activities you can partake in the next day. Knowing what you're seeing will allow you to appreciate it more.

4. Talk to other people.

Be open and welcoming! Focus on making friends. Chances are, many of the people on the sunset cruise are staying near you, and if you become friends, you'll have people to hang out with for the rest of your vacation.

Sunset cruises can be a great experience, especially if you follow the tips above when you embark.
